SUBWAY® restaurants jump to the front of worldwide technology queue
Q JMP deployed by SUBWAY®
Monday 18th September 2006, In order to offer customers a fast track channel for ordering SUBWAY® products, SUBWAY® Restaurants New Zealand today became the country’s first fast food outlet to offer SMS ordering from mobile phones.
QJMP, an abbreviation for the words ‘Queue Jump’, is the first SMS ordering system, anywhere in the world, to provide a flexible, custom-built service allowing customers to create their own sub right down to the last salt and pepper detail.
The company that developed and is driving this technology, Altaine, is an innovative New Zealand owned mobile phone technology developer with a wide range of innovative services and products and a customer list which includes many highly respected international organisations
In keeping with the true SUBWAY® restaurants spirit, where it’s all about letting the customer create each sub fresh, from the bread, to the fillings, to the sauces, QJMP allows customers to communicate all these choices via a simple SMS message. Each SMS order is automatically sent to the customers selected store and the sub is ready for pick-up within 5-7 minutes.
The Q JMP system uses numerals and letters, in an innovative manner, to specify every element of a sub order. SUBWAY® also provide a Q JMP menu to guide customers through the process.
To simplify and speed up the ordering process even further, SUBWAY® restaurants and Altaine have cleverly introduced the phrases ‘FAV’ and ‘LAST’ which, once loaded, allow a favourite sub to be ordered within seconds and the customer does not have to re-input the code.
A trial run over the last 10 months has verified the value that QJMP provides to both SUBWAY® restaurants and Subway customers. Whether you’re a city worker picking up lunch during rush hour or on your way out and want to grab a quick sub, QJMP allows you to order, pick-up and pay for your sub in under 7 minutes.
During the trial Altaine has received regular glowing feedback. Paul Evans-McLeod from Telecom wrote, “What a brilliant service! I’m in a call centre with approximately 350 people, and we only have 30 minutes for lunches, and the queues get long. This will help tremendously. Everybody is saying how cool this is!”
“I think it’s the best idea ever… it certainly saved me so much time it was impressive. 12 people in line yesterday and I walked straight up to the counter and picked up and paid for my sub – this is fantastic!” Manu Rangimeokau, Christchurch.
SUBWAY® Restaurants New Zealand’s QJMP revolution has already caught the eye of the European and Australian SUBWAY® franchisees who are hoping to trial the QJMP system in their stores. A trial involving 10 SUBWAY® stores in the United Kingdom has also recently begun.
The head of technology from SUBWAY® restaurants headquarters in The United States has also indicated an intention to evaluate QJMP as a model to take to the rest of the world.
In addition to the QJMP revolution, SUBWAY® Restaurants has begun plans to launch an integrated online ordering channel that will compliment the SMS service
